Upon collection, glass is transported to recycling facilities where it undergoes sorting by colour and contamination removal. Non-glass materials like metal caps, plastic sleeves, and ceramics are separated to ensure purity.
Sorted glass is crushed into small pieces called cullet. Cullet is then melted in a furnace at high temperatures and can be moulded into new glass products, drastically reducing the need for raw materials and energy consumption.
